Hope for the Season with this Tee!

We're still trying to spread some hope this week and this adorable tee will do just that! Allie Hope Tee at Fossil.

Cozy Chic from Fossil!

Gosh, lately I feel like all I'm drawn to is the cozy chic look we're seeing so much of this season. There's a relaxed vibe to just about everything-from blazers to pants, to this adorable Jolie Fleece Sweater. Although, I'm not sure what I like more...the cozy chic-ness or the minty sage color, that looks like something in nature, although I'm not quite sure what! Available at Fossil and also comes in grey.

A Little Hope Can Go a Long Way!

Needless to say with a dismal economy, scary unemployment rate, and two shocking attacks toward innocent people in the past week, we could all use a little "hope" right now. Hope for healing, "up-"sizing, and a general turn-around. Remind yourself (and others) to keep hoping with this Erica Anenberg Hope Twosome Ring. The worded ring is a little bit feminine, but that femininity is balanced just by being a two-finger ring. Available at Max & Chloe.

Celeb Make-Up Artist Gives us Help for Our Lashes!

Celebrity makeup artist Brett Freedman works with beauties like Vanessa Hudgens, Reba McEntire, Kelly Clarkson, Emily Blunt, and Jessica Lucas, so we're pretty sure to heed any advice he has to give us! According to Freedman, there are 3 necessary tools to fab lashes:

1. A STURDY LASH CURLER
BRETT SAYS:
This is huge. I'm shocked by how many women don't take advantage of this eye opening, younger-looking-in-a-snap tool. Even if your lashes don't need the extra lift a curler can give, I like the crispness that a little nudge will give by just aligning and evening up the lash line.

TRY: The CURL from Vanitymark (guess what ladies? It’s on sale for $6.50 on vanitymark.com!!). Using a curler will make your eyes look as big and expressive as possible. The silicon curling pad is designed for just enough give to curl not crimp lashes.

2. THE PERFECT BLACK MASCARA
BRETT SAYS:
I’m a huge fan of mascara. I love that women can wear oodles of it and it really never ‘reads’ as makeup. What better way to amp up your look than with long, dark lush lashes?!

TRY: L’Oreal Voluminous - I was turned onto this by Annette Benning YEARS ago and it's still one of my faves! It’s a beautiful shade of black black and goes on super smooth!
OR: Cover Girl Lashblast in Very Black - Great formula. Great brush. This is a must-have for my kit and Kelly Clarkson got me to try it! She grabbed a tube while touring and had me give it a try...I loved it!

3. A LASH COMB & BRUSH
BRETT SAYS:
An additional boost for all the perfectionists out there – a brush/comb is key for me to fluff and separate lashes for a natural and defined lashline.

TRY: The DUO from my line Vanitymark – It’s a dual-sided foldable brush/comb combo that collapses into a tiny, travel-friendly size and easily fluffs lashes pre-mascara and eliminates clumps post-mascara (And it’s also on sale - just $4 on vanitymark.com!).

Women Empowering Women...Award-Winning Producer/Philanthropist Francine LeFrak Launches Same Sky-A Line of Socially Conscious Jewelry

A new trade-not-aid initiative, SAME SKY, is using jewelry to effect change in Rwanda—one woman at a time. Founded by producer/philanthropist Francine LeFrak, SAME SKY is launching a jewelry line that provides employment opportunities to women artisans in Rwanda, all of whom survived the 1994 genocide. More than 250,000 women were raped and as a result became infected with HIV/AIDS. Each hand crocheted glass-bead bracelet provides income that helps the SAME SKY artisans to support themselves and secure a future for their own children and genocide orphans.

SAME SKY’s “women-helping-women” mission teaches the Rwandan artisans to be self-sufficient, giving them full-time employment, and the chance to become economically independent. “SAME SKY provides a hand-up instead of a hand-out,” says founder Francine LeFrak. “Each bracelet not only supports the artisan who crafted it but impacts her entire family. We provide the women with transportation to and from work and also give them a meal so they can be strong enough to take HIV/AIDS medications.”

SAME SKY has already garnered an impressive amount of attention, including notable celebrity supporters such as Alicia Keys, Goldie Hawn, Halle Berry and Chelsea Clinton, among others.

The bracelets make use of traditional Rwandan weaving skills, using 165-180 hand-blown glass beads made according to Ms. LeFrak’s specifications. The colors are: Fire Red, Orange Crush, Golden Sunrise, Butterscotch, Jade Green, Tropic Lagoon, Seafoam Blue, Delphinium Blue, Peacock, Indigo Sky, Evening Sky, Lavender Blue, Flamingo Pink, Chocolate Brownie, Sleek Gray, Twilight, Caviar, Clear Sky and Starry Night.

The bracelets are part of the growing ethical shopping movement, serving to directly connect the purchaser with the actual woman who crocheted the piece she will wear. Each bracelet comes signed by the woman who made that piece, and their personal stories are featured on the SAME SKY website. “Our message is that women are in this together, owning our power, all living under the same sky,” says Ms. LeFrak. “With the purchase of a bracelet, you become fashionable, socially mindful and part of the powerful circle connecting women everywhere.”

An estimated one million people were killed during the 100-day Rwandan genocide in 1994, according to U.N. estimates. After working more than eight years to produce a motion picture on the plight of Rwandan women that never came to fruition, Ms. LeFrak carried her passion into developing SAME SKY. She launched it as an economically sustainable for-profit business and has assembled a team of two young women in New York, Bridget Bailey and Elizabeth Long, furthering the message points of social entrepreneurship, giving back and woman-to-woman mentoring.

SAME SKY bracelets are available for purchase at http://www.samesky.com/ and in New York at Zitomer’s (969 Madison Avenue) and Z Chemist (40 West 57th Street); in Houston at Tootsies (4045 Westheimer); and in Las Vegas at Wynn Hotels. The bracelets retail from $150. All profits from the sale of the bracelets go directly back into growing SAME SKY and economically empowering and employing more women.

Get Ready to Shop the Skinny! Members-Only Skin Care Sample Sale Website Announces its First Sale and Exciting Fall 2009 Line-Up

The Skinny is the first members-only shopping destination focused exclusively on luxury skin care products and spa services at discounts of up to 70% off retail. The Skinny's first shopping event is scheduled for November 4th, 2009. In keeping with the exclusive nature of the company’s private sales, only members will "get the skinny" on which top-shelf brands are lined up for Fall 2009. "With a new skin care product launching every 85 minutes, it's not surprising that shoppers are overwhelmed," said Lauren Fornes, co-founder of The Skinny. "Consumers want solutions to their skin concerns and are open to trying new brands, but the top reasons consumers don't try a new brand are confusion and cost. We started The Skinny to lower those barriers and help skin care brands gain new customers."

The online sample sale model has proven to be wildly successful for apparel, accessories and
home decor, but skin care merchandising is different. The Skinny co-founder Paige Steinman
points out, "You can take one look at a CHANEL© bag and know that it's perfect for you. You
can't glance at a bottle of moisturizer and know if it's right for your skin. This poses an interesting challenge for skin care companies on the web. We think we've got it solved."

Importantly, The Skinny goes beyond big discounts. Led by Fornes, a licensed aesthetician, the
Skinny's expert team produces entertaining and educational brand and product videos that
quickly highlight each solution's science and efficacy.

"Education is a big focus for us, but skin care should be fun too! Our video content communicates the science behind the products in an approachable, interactive way," said Fornes.

The Skinny also delivers personalized product recommendations, based on the member's skin
type (oily, dry, etc.), skin concerns (aging, acne, etc.) and product preferences (natural, organic,
pregnancy-safe). Beyond the website, The Skinny's team of skin health experts share tips and
answer questions on Facebook and Twitter (@shoptheskinny).

Interested in getting The Skinny? Membership is available by invitation or, for a limited time, by visiting
http://www.shoptheskinny.com/.

To Macy's...for this Perfect Winter Dress!

I love the commercial indicating that everyone, from Lucille Ball to Heidi Klum, trots off to Macy's everytime they've needed anything in the past 150 years. There actually might be some truth to that, especially if you're looking for a lux sweater dress. This preppy cozy look flatters most figures and the wool/cashmere blend helps keep you cozy in sub-freezing temperatures! BCBGMAXAZRIA Dress, Striped Sweater

Mad for Plaid this fall!

Sometimes just what we need is a little bit of mis-matched...to compliment what feels like our sometimes "mis-matched" lives! This mis-matched plaid is perfect for that without going over the top. The colors scream fall and yes, I adore the non-traditional plaid pattern. PLAID TUNIC BLOUSE $49.95
