Oh-So-Hot Hollywood Hair

Celebrity Hairstylist and Creative Director of posh NYC Salon Chris Chase, Paul Cucinello dishes his tips on how to get Golden Globe hair at home.

Blunt Bangs

(Also seen on Olivia Wilde) “While I usually love this look, I'm not such a fan of it on Sandra. Her hair might've looked better pulled off of her face.”

Do It Yourself Technique: These look like clip-on bangs! They're a really fun way to try on a look without making the commitment. (Try HairUWear Dancing With The Stars “Bango Tango” $22.00 at Ricky's) Prep hair with a heat protectant. Create a perfectly even center part and blowdry straight. Use a flat iron to create a super-sleek effect. Clip on bangs. Finish with a light mist of shine spray (Try TRESemmé Smooth & Silky Shine Spray.)

Sleek Pony

“I think this is simple and pretty but a bit to casual for the Golden Globes.  Big, bouncy volume might have been a better choice here.”

Do It Yourself Technique: Blast hair dry with a smoothing spray and a medium sized round brush (Try Oribé Royal Blowout) Create a deep side part with a tail comb. Leaving the top section out, slick the sides back using a small, natural bristle brush and a touch of hairspray at the roots.  Gather the sides in a low, tight ponytail. Now do the same for the top, directing the section straight back. Add this section to your first ponytail with another elastic band. Forgo the usual elastics for something invisible and snag-free to keep it neat. (Try Blax Snag Free Elastics in Clear)

Side Waves

"This is what glam hair is all about for 2011. It's the perfect look for the red carpet and it never goes out of style. Love it!"

Do It Yourself Technique: Prep hair by using a shampoo for volume and keep your conditioner focused on the ends. Add a volumizing mist to the roots and evenly distribute throughout your hair. Blast 3/4 dry. Create a "C" shaped part. Then, using Hot Rollers (Try BaByliss PRO Ceramic 20 Roller Setter) Set your hair in 1 1/2" sections following the direction of your part using smaller rollers and working back in the crown with larger rollers. Allow to set until fully cooled, at least 15-30 mins. Remove rollers and brush through hair using a large paddle brush. Direct hair over one shoulder, recreate your part & apply a firm hold, brushable hairspray. (Try Sebastian Re-Shaper Hairspray)

Old Hollywood Glam

"I love this way of dressing up a long bob. It's elegant, classic and dramatic."

Do It Yourself Technique: Prep hair by using a shampoo for volume and keep your conditioner focused on the ends. (Try Oribé Shampoo & Conditioner for Magnificent Volume) Add a volumizing mist to the roots and evenly distribute throughout your hair. Blast 3/4 dry.  and smooth our the crown area. Create a deep side part. Using large hot rollers, take 1 1/2" sections and set your hair directing back on the top & forward on the sides. Keep the rollers focused on the ends only in the back so that the bottom stays curled under. Allow to set until fully cooled, at least 15-30 mins. Remove rollers and brush through hair using a large paddle brush. Finish with a firm holding hairspray. (Try Sebastian Shaper Fierce Hairspray)

Dramatic Bun

"I know it might seem like it's too much volume for some, but I really love how this look balances out the front of the dress and keeps your attention focused on her overall look. This is a great option for anyone with long curly hair."

Do It Yourself Technique: Prep your hair the night before the big event. Use a smoothing shampoo since you're only going to want a touch of volume but you'll still need frizz control. (Try TRESemmé Smooth & Silky Shampoo & Conditioner) Apply a generous amount of mousse for volume and control. (Try Shu Uemura Ample Angora Volumizing Light Foam) Flip your head over and dry using a diffuser.  Take a wide toothed comb and work through the roots only. Gather your hair into a high ponytail.  Tease the interior of the ponytail, leaving out some pieces for detail. Gently twist the ponytail (without compressing it too much) so you form a large bun. Tuck the ends underneath and secure the bun all the way around with bobby pins that match your haircolor. Finish with a firm holding hairspray.

Mariska Hargitay in AZIAM Wife Lover Tank

Happy birthday Mariska Hargitay!  The actress celebrated in style over the weekend wearing an AZIAM Wife Lover made exclusively for the Joyful Heart Foundation, her non-profit organization aiding victims of sexual assault.  The Wife Lover tank is available for $40 at www.AZIAM.com and ten percent of the proceeds are donated directly to the Joyful Heart Foundation.  Check out Hargitay below with pals Debra Messing and Jennifer Love Hewitt.  Side note, I L-O-V-E LOVE the tank paired with Jennifer's sequin blazer.  So cute! Get the Look: Camilla Belle at the Prada to Nada Premiere!

She's so beautiful isn't she?  Well get excited dolls, below celeb makeup artist Brett Freedman dishes on exactly what he used for her look at the Prada to Nada Premiere!

Brett explains, "For the From Prada to Nada premiere, Camilla wanted a structured look with edge to go with her stylish and daring pantsuit and ab-baring top.  I opted to do rounded, matte charcoal eyes rimmed with stark black liner.  Fleshy lips and cheeks helped to keep the focus on the eyes."

Base: Shu Uemura in 345. Love the smooth finish this foundation gives.

Concealer: Nars duo in Custard/Ginger. I mainly used the Custard under and the slightly deeper ginger on lid as shadow base.
Brow: Vanitymark Dark Choco brow pencil to extend the tail slightly.
Cheek: Margin by MAC.  A little shimmer gives cheeks a light catching pop.
Eyeshadows: NARS duo in Pandora with a little MAC Quarry for blending.
Brow bone: Benefit Girls Like Pearls. Champagne shimmer with a touch of pink.
Mascara: L’Oreal Voluminous in Carbon.  My fave go-to mascara!
Eyeliner: Shu Uemura Drawing Pencil in Black
Face Powder: MAC Blot Powder in Medium.
Lipstick: MAC Propagate.  I wanted her lips and cheeks to be very fleshy so the interest would stay on her eyes.

Are Style Gurus Out of Touch?

I had to chuckle when recently flipping through a magazine's "budget friendly" buys they were lauding.  $200 for a cuff...$156 for a shirt...and the accolades of our First Lady in J. Crew.  Don't get me wrong, I applaud the first lady for sometimes choosing more mainstream options, but in this economy, $158 for a skirt just isn't in the budget for a lot of people.  I'm also reminded of an episode of The Soup from a few weeks ago, in which Oprah couldn't fathom a photographer, who, asking her for gift advice, couldn't afford something for $100.  "You don't have $100?" she questioned incredulously.

Which leads me to believe that "budget" for some people is not the reality of most.  So what's a fashionista to do?  Give up on style because she's been deemed hopeless in the eyes of those in-the-know?  Of course not!  Just steal their ideas and keep your eyes open...great buys are to be had for everyone.  Here are a few tips:

1)  Inexpensive accessories are a quick way to update a look.  Remember, quality doesn't have to be sacrificed!  For instance, if you can't afford (or are opposed to) leather bags, there are both affordable and eco-friendly lines out there that are just as nice as the real thing and not PVC (I'm sorry, I hate plastic looking bags)!  Celebs love Amy Kathryn (right now 24-7 Style has her Snap Dragon Clutch, shown, on sale for under $30)!

2)  Don't be a "Mart-snob."  The "Marts" of our world have kind of gotten a bad clothing-rap as of late, and while, no, they might not have the biggest and best assortment, they do have some cute, trendier pieces.

3) Take time to "sift through."  TJ Maxx, Marshall's, and Burlington Coat Factory have such great pieces and in some instances they really are next to nothing price wise.  While it might require some patience to go through their full racks, that patience really will pay off.

4) Occasionally take time to stop by your local Goodwill. I've found great bags (leather included) for just $3.00! Astonishing!

Instead of giving up on style because you "can't afford it," just get creative and keep your eyes open...great style really is in your budget!

Celebrity Hair from the People's Choice Awards!

Want to emulate the looks of stars like Selena Gomez, Kristen Stewart, and Jennifer Anniston?  Our friends at New York Streets and ECRU New York tell us just what we need for the head turning looks we saw at the 2011 People's Choice Awards.

Get Swept Away with Softly Tousled Hair

To get sexy, side-swept waves as seen on Selena Gomez, first prep hair with ECRU New York Marine Styling Balm ($24) to increase fullness, impart shine and provide weightless hold for styling. Once hair is dry, apply a moisturizing styling balm such as ECRU New York Silk Texturizing Balm ($32.50) to ends. Then, use a 1” curling iron to wave sections.

Go 60's Chic with Sexy Tresses

Want to re-create Kristen Stewart’s coveted locks? Start by spraying ECRU New York Volumizing Silk Mist ($24) from roots to ends on damp hair to enhance volume and texture. Next, blow dry hair with hands until it is almost dry. Then, finish blowing hair with a round brush so that it is smooth and soft. Curl hair in 1” sections. Complete the look with New York Streets Liquid Shine ($22) to reduce frizz and control unruly textures.

Make A Statement with Bold, Sleek Locks

Jennifer Aniston’s honey-blonde, California girl hair was the perfect compliment to her sexy black outfit. To get her look, first apply ECRU New York Silk Nourishing Cream ($24) to dry hair and work through with fingers. This styling cream promotes shine and body without residue. Complete the look with New York Streets Hair Spray ($16.50) for a flexible hold.

Get the Look - Laura Vandervoort

The amazingly gorgeous Laura Vandervoort looked even more gorgeous after Hollywood makeup artist Brett Freedman worked his magic on her Sunday night for the J. Mendel pre-Golden Globes party.  Freedman agrees, "V's Laura Vandervoort is just painfully beautiful...I like to call her 'baby Charlize'. For the J. Mendel pre-Golden Globes event last night, Laura rocked a shimmery, sunny and glowy makeup look to match her flesh-colored dress. Here are all the juicy details and products behind her look!"

  • BODY Body glow: Summerskin by Vanitymark. Since Laura was wearing a dress in a pale shade I decided to give her subtle lift in color on her body. I applied this bronzing shimmer spray on all exposed skin from her jaw line and down. It has a slight shimmer to it so it gives skin that 'new car finish' we all love.
  • FACE Moisturizer: Dermalogica Oil-Free to prep the skin and give a supple, satiny feel. Foundation: Benefit Play Sticks Cream to Powder Foundation. I mixed two shades: Hop Scotch and Tea Party. I applied while the face was moist with moisturizer so once it dried it would have a touch more staying power.  Concealer: Cle de Peau in Beige. I just used under her inner eye and around the nose and mouth to give her face a very flawless, shield-like look.  Powder: DermaMinerals Buildable Coverage Pressed Mineral Powder in 2C.  I matched her foundation with this powder to give skin a matte finish before applying bronzer. That way the bronzer doesn’t grab or splotch. Bronzer: Stila Sun Bronzing Powder in #2. I applied all over. I left her face a touch lighter than her body so she wouldn't look too muddy or painted.
  • CHEEKS Blush: MAC Melba applied with a very fluffy cheek brush in circular motion to buff out a soft, healthy glow.  I opted for fleshy lips and cheeks with a little lift of apricot. Highlighter: Jemma Kidd Make Up School Dual Highlighter in Champagne. I used the cream part along top of cheekbones and brow bone. I wanted her skin to look dewy but only in certain spots. This highlighter duo is terrific for this!
  • EYES Eyeshadow: Revlon Illuminance cream shadow in Not Just Nudes. I like the soft shimmer and easy blend of these cream shadows. Eyeliner: Trish McEvoy black waterproof eyeliner. When sending an actress to an event it's best to use something that really holds up. This new liner by Trish is fantastic. Dark but really holds up. I winged out a touch to sex up Laura's eyes. Mascara: L'Oreal Voluminous. Love this stuff, as you all know!
  • BROWS Brow: Vanitymark's Ultra-Brow pencil in Blondie. It has a slight warm, taupe-y vibe that is great to give Laura's amazing brows just the right subtle structure. I extended her tail a bit to give a little extra ‘old Hollywood’ glam. I added a touch of MAC's Goldmine shimmer powder shadow, wet, to her brow hairs to lighten. This allowed her lashes to be the darkest thing on her face.
  • LIPS Lip Liner: Arden Lipstick Lip Definer in Naturel . Fleshy and subtle. I wanted Laura to get the lift of color from her lip gloss. Gloss: Arden High Shine Lip Gloss in Golden Pearl. Pink with a touch of gold. Gold gloss alone looked a bit too low-fi for the red carpet, so the gloss/lip liner combo works best in this instance.

Introduce Yourself to (seed) Healthy Hand Cream!

With all the fun that comes with the winter months, there are some things I hate: the kind of blustery cold that takes your breath away when you open the door; the "crunching" sound the snow makes when walking; the heat bills; and perhaps most annoying, the dry skin!  The dry skin that regardless of what you do seems to get dryer - especially my hands!  I know I don't really wash them any more than I do in warmer months, but it sure feels like it.

With all of that being said I jumped at the chance to try new (seed) Healthy Hand Cream in Invigorating Citrus Blend.  The all natural, affordable cream features a "blend of seed-based ingredients (Grape Seed Oil), rich in antioxidants (Vitamin E), essential fatty acids (linoleic acid), phytosterols (anti-inflammatory), and other skin-healing nutrients to protect your paws."  The Healthy Hand Cream also includes the likes of Jojoba Seed Oil, Sunflower Seed Oil, and Shea Butter.  The pureness of the ingredients is evident as you slather the rich cream on.  It's the perfect lotion...not watery, not sticky, just fast hydrating and super nourishing...exactly what you're in need of!  And the light citrus scent is amazing!

The best part, it's affordable!  Just $7.99 (seed) Healthy Hand Cream is available at Drugstore.com and select Whole Foods and ShopRite locations.  The line also includes Nourishing Body Lotion, Conditioning Hair Shampoo Bar, and Moisturizing Body Soap.

**I received a product sample of (seed) Healthy Hand Cream.
