Hot or Not: Printed Pants

Friday, March 30, 2012

This is a tough one.  Printed pants can make even the tiniest person look large, and some of the prints, are, well…just plain ugly.  On the flip-side, there are those pants that have the perfect print that many of us could easily pull off.  Below we’re showing Something Else Splice Pants ($167) and Piazza Sempione Cotton Sateen Pants ($440) both available at Saks.  Make your opinion known, are printed pants on your “it” list or “hit” list?

Two for the Price of One with New York Streets Dry Shampoo!

Monday, March 26, 2012

New York Streets Dry ShampooI love double-duty products.  Especially when both of the tasks they’re accomplishing are to my benefit.  Enter New York Streets Dry Shampoo.  We all know how a dry shampoo works, right?  Spray it on your roots to absorb the oils and other gross entities that make it look you’re in need of a shower.  Viola!  You’ve just saved yourself quite a bit of time in the morning en route to looking amazing.  To that extent, New York Streets works fabulously.  The clear formula goes on like a breeze and is easy to work through, but, this is a post about double-duty….soooooo….what other tricks can you pull from its cap?

This is going to seem counter-intuitive, at least it does to me, the far-from-a-scientist-beauty-addict.  BUT, have you ever had a hair moment where your locks are too clean?  Your hair refuses to style, it won’t hold, it’s too soft and it won’t do anything you attempt to try with it.  That was my predicament after trying a new gel that I thought would suffice sans any other styling agents or texturizer.  With a bottle similarly shaped to the product I was actually reaching for (and, it was fairly early in the morning…I still had brain-haze), I started to spray the New York Streets Dry Shampoo throughout.  I stopped when I realized what I was doing, but before grabbing the other product, just like magic, I had the perfect amount of texture necessary for styling.  From drab to fab.  Nice work New York Streets, I love an unexpected surprise!

New York Streets Dry Shampoo retails for $17.00 and is available at Newyork-Streets.com or fine salons near you!

Goldsign and Citizens March

From head to ankle, Katharine McPhee looked fab, right?!?  Red lipstick and her Goldsign “Thrill” mid-rise cropped coated jeans in Ruby Gloss ($280, Net-A-Porter) were hot on the set of Smash, March 19th in NYC.  Although most of her look sizzled, we would have tossed McPhee’s slippers for cute flats à la Rachel Bilson, here wearing Goldsign “Jenny” high rise, salvage, slim leg, cuffed jeans in Debut ($288, Madison Los Angelos) as she ran errands March 7th in Los Felix, CA.  A few days later, while grabbing lunch in L.A., the beloved Drew Barrymore was spotted in Citizens of Humanity “Sterling” slouchy skinny jeans in Surrender (visit Citizens of Humanity for availability).

Love it, Make it yours…Rashida Jones’ After-Party Hair

Monday, March 19, 2012

We loved Rashida Jones at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party – clean, simple, pretty.  Her hairstylist for the event, Byron Williams, below shares with us how to achieve this fresh-for-spring look:

Rashida’s look was very simple, a clean, modern look.  I loved the dress she had on.  The vision I had for her hair was simple, straight, modern.  To achieve the look on your own, blow dry really straight.  Use just a tad of Illuminating Mist and go over with a flat iron. Finish with Spirulina Hairspray.   Keep makeup was clean with a natural, slightly smokey eye.

Celebrate Spa Week’s Sweet 16 by Booking your $50 Treatment Today!

Friday, March 16, 2012

Yes, March Madness is in full swing and while that might bring out the competitive side in a lot of us, it brings something else – $50 spa treatments, courtesy of Spa Week.  Technically, it’s just the booking of the $50 treatment that takes place in March, but regardless, that’s a great reason to get excited, because that means Spa Week (April 16-22) will be here before you know it!  Another reason to be excited?  Spa Week is celebrating its Sweet 16!  Since 2004, Spa Week has graced us with 16 bi-annual weeks of glorious $50 treatments.  To celebrate, they’re sharing 16 of their favorite spa ingredients.  Be sure to visit SpaWeek.com for a list of participating spas near you!

Diamond Treatment16 SWEET Spa Week Ingredients + Their Benefits

1. CHOCOLATE Our skin craves chocolate as much as we do. Chocolate is rich in antioxidants and is high in magnesium, which promotes cell growth, repairs tissues, and absorbs nutrients. The fats in this sweet treat also moisturize and work as anti-inflammatory agents. Have your chocolate cake and cover yourself in it too! $50 Treatment to try: 50 Min Chocolate Scented Massage from The Chocolate Day Spa in Costa Mesa, CA

2. DIAMONDS Diamonds really are a girl’s best friend.  Diamond microdermabrasion is a simple and painless way to eliminate wrinkles, acne, age spots, and stretch marks. Diamonds are forever and can help you feel forever young. $50 Treatment to try: DiamondTome™ Microdermabrasion at Bella Pelle Medspa & Laser in Lake Geneva, WIDiamond Microdermabrasion Tips

3. HOT STEAM For best results get hot & steamy. Hot steam warms up the muscles for a deeper massage and opens pores to make scrubs more effective. Afterwards, steam helps speed up your body’s ability to release toxins following a massage and gets rid of the lactic acid build-up so your muscles aren’t sore. Now those are some steamy spa secrets! $50 Treatment to try: 50 Min Body Polishing with Vichy Shower, Steam, & Sauna Treatment at Elizabeth Adam Salon and Day Spa in Chicago, IL

4. FLASHING LIGHTS Flashing lights are all the rave. Spa Rave, that is. This is a very broad category; various light treatments are used for everything from anti-aging remedies and laser hair removal, to the relief of muscle and joint pain. Flashes can minimize fine lines and wrinkles, improve skin tone, and restore skin’s natural cellular collagen activity. $50 Treatment to try: 60 Min Natural Face Lift with LED Technology & Plant Stem Cell Serum at Namaste Organic Spa in Ridgewood, NJ

5. CHAMPAGNE Champagne is perfect for celebrations, but it’s also perfect for pre-toast preparations. Pour a little on your hair for smooth and silky results. We’ll cheers to that! $50 Treatment to try: 50 Min Luxurious Champagne Facial at V Spa at Hilton Antaloe in Dallas, TX

6. VITAMIN C We know Vitamin C is good for us, but did you know that Vitamin C is the key to the production of collagen? Vitamin C also helps create scar tissue and ligaments, and it helps your skin repair itself. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that reduces skin dryness, fine lines and wrinkles. Orange you glad we told you? $50 Treatment to try: 75 Min “Power-C Peel Infusion with Head & Neck Massage at Boston Skin Solutions in Brookline, MA

7. NEEDLES Needless to say, most of us don’t enjoy being stuck with a needle. Acupuncture also restores overall health and well being. With benefits like that, needles schmeedles. $50 Treatment to try: 50 Min Acupuncture session at Mar Vista Health Center in Los Angeles, CA.

8. ACID Forget the jeans, get an acid washed face. Glycolic, salicylic and lactic acids are all used as chemical peels to enhance the skin. And the friendly lactic peel is especially good for first time users or people with sensitive skin. $50 Treatment to try: Lactic or Jessner Facila Peel at CosMedica in Wakefield, MA

Paint your Lips Perfect with COLORESSENTIAL from Susan Posnick Cosmetics

Monday, March 12, 2012

COLORESSENTIALI’ve been so incredibly turned off by lipsticks lately.  Finding the right shade seems daunting and inevitably never works out.  And yes, I know most stores have a return policy and it’s my fault for never taking advantage of it, but, I don’t.  I just want something that’s the right shade and doesn’t give me the flaky lip most lipsticks are prone to do.  Is that too much to ask?

Needless to say, I was intrigued when I read about COLORESSENTIAL from Susan Posnick Cosmetics.  The collection, which includes shades of berry, pink, red, nude and coral, yields claims these hues are universally flattering.  Sure.  Mmmmhmmm….

Not stopping there, supposedly, it’s also long lasting, even though it’s formulated with olive oil and enriched Paracress, a sustainable South African plant with antioxidant properties that continually rehydrate lips and reduces the appearance of lines.  Sure.  Mmmmhmmm….

Alright, so what is the line really like?  Impressively, each of the two colors I tried went on super smooth – like a balm, sans the stickiness.  For lipstick, the longevity of the line was a bonus.  Not as lengthy as a stain, it also didn’t run and fade like a lot of lines I’ve worn.  And, drumroll please…both actually looked good.

Previous experience has taught me nudes only work with either a faux-glow or super tanned skin.  At the moment, I have neither.  Regardless, somehow Dubai, a glamorous perfect-for-summer nude, was perfection.  The Milan shade however is what I was really excited about.  Finding the perfect red lipstick has only led me to a collection of practically unused tubes because, sadly, they’re always just a bit off.  Milan however…well…Milan is my new go-to.  I was so excited, I made friends try it out, literally running the gamut: from my “pasty winter skin” to my bestie’s African American tone, it was perfection.  They’re obsessed now too!

The collection of nine shades ($19) are available at SusanPosnick.com.

Erase all of your Eye Problems with Revitaleyes!

Monday, March 5, 2012

RevitaleyesWithout speaking, eyes say so much don’t they?  Maybe that’s the reason women are obsessed with their upkeep.  We have creams for dark circles, creams for wrinkles, creams for puffiness and creams for a million “ailments” in between….a little cray-cray if you ask me.

Exactly the reason I’m smitten with Lumixyl® Revitaleyes Brightening Eye Cream.  Instead of 10 potions for 10 problems, Revitaleyes takes care of everything: lines, wrinkles, dryness, puffiness and dark circles.

The only cream to be formulated with decapeptide-12, the Stanford University developed technology clinically shown to reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation in skin without causing the irritation or redness associated with other brightening agents.

The newest product from Envy Medical, which develops, markets and sells highly effective non-invasive skin rejuvenation therapies, Revitaleyes is sold exclusively through dermatology, cosmetic surgery and medical spa physicians throughout the U.S. and retails for $65.  For more info on Revitaleyes or the other Envy Medical products, visit EnvyMedical.com.

Hot or Not: Sporty Wedges

Friday, March 2, 2012

I have to admit…I L-O-V-E love this trend!  Actually, I do have my limitations.  There are some sporty wedges that are a bit too much, but when done correctly, my heart pitter-patters in a way only fellow shoe-lovers could understand.  Pictured is the Wendolyn Wedge from Boutique 9 Booties, available at Bloomingdales ($130).

Fall in Love with DVF Fall 2012

Thursday, March 1, 2012

The Midwest had it’s first day of spring-like weather yesterday making it hard to skip right past summer and look ahead to fall.  BUT, here I go anyway!  The great Diane von Furstenberg’s sophisticated yet sexy collection was a favorite of many, myself included.  Highlights below:
